Three starting profiles, shaped around the oboist

Handmade oboe reeds

Soft, Medium and Hard are not promises of an identical result. They are three resistance profiles from which the final setup is discussed around your instrument, playing level and sound goals.

Resistance is a choice. Tone is a signature.

S

An easier start with a warm, immediate response.

Resistance: Light

M

Medium

A balanced profile combining flexibility and support.

Resistance: Balanced

H

Hard

Stronger support with greater projection.

Resistance: Firm

01

Three profiles, three starting points

The fibre structure of natural cane varies from piece to piece. A profile name therefore describes an approach; it does not claim that two reeds will be completely identical.

  • Soft — lighter initial resistance and a quick response for study and long rehearsals.
  • Medium — a balanced starting profile combining flexibility, resistance and support.
  • Hard — firmer support and stable resistance for experienced players seeking projection.

02

What belongs in your order note?

Your oboe make and model, staple dimensions, usual scrape approach and what you would change about your current reed all help identify a useful starting profile.

  • Free-blowing or resistant preference
  • Dark, bright or focused sound goal
  • Your location and approximate climate
  • Student, amateur or professional context

03

Honest expectations for a natural material

Cane responds to climate, humidity, playing habits and care. The request form does not take payment. Needs, feasibility and current terms are confirmed first.
